This position is accountable for providing quality physical therapy services to our patients, and assisting them in achieving maximum potential in the areas of strength, flexibility, and activities of daily living within their limitations of disability, injury, and/or illness under the general supervision of a licensed physical therapist and Rehab Therapy Services Supervisor. Other related duties and overtime may be required.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The incumbent provides physical therapy services to patients of Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric patients and families. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to work with patients physical, motor or sensory adaptation, cognitive, and psychosocial needs specific to the population being served, and meets standards of quality as measured by the department age specific competency standards. The assistant is challenged to provide quality physical therapy treatment and to maintain a high level of communication and cooperation with other people involved in the care of the patient.
This position has the authority to make minor adjustments in individual patient programs, schedule patients, document objective data, and recommend and obtain routine appropriate equipment.
Decisions that must be referred to the Licensed Physical Therapist are the performance or execution of initial patient evaluations, re-evaluations, major program changes, establishment of goals, ordering of custom equipment, and preparation of complex discharge summaries. To establish program continuity a minimum of weekly discussions are held with each primary therapist concerning the patients.
Approval from the department manager or supervisor is needed for changes in department policies and procedures, provided travel and continuing education programs, purchasing supplies and equipment, changes in work schedule, changes or development of therapeutic programs and activities interfacing with other departments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
1. AA in Physical Therapy and completion of a Physical Therapy Assistant program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.
2. Requires the ability to speak, read, and write English.
Experience:
None required: Applicants with experience in the acute care setting may be given preference.
License(s)/Certification(s):
1. Current Nevada State licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant is required.
2. Current BLS certification is required within 30 days of hire date.
