This position is accountable for providing quality occupational therapy services to patients under the general supervision of the Rehab Therapy Services Supervisor. This individual provides comprehensive occupational therapy services to patients with physical and/or psychosocial disabilities through patient evaluations and assessments, intervention, program planning and implementation, discharge planning, and related documentation and communication.
NATURE AND SCOPE: The incumbent provides occupational therapy services to patients of Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric patients and families. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to work with patient's physical, motor or sensory adaptation, cognitive, and psychosocial needs specific to the population being served, and meets standards of quality as measured by the department age specific competency standards. The incumbent is responsible for the direct supervision of rehab therapy services techs and the general supervision of Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistants. Additional responsibilities and overtime may be required. Occupational therapy practitioners advance along a continuum from entry to advanced level based on experience, education, and practice skills. The occupational therapist has the ultimate responsibility for service provision. This position is constantly challenged to provide comprehensive evaluations, treatments, teaching, and program development. This position requires a great variety of knowledge, skills, and creativity because of the wide range of patient types and needs; and to maintain a high level of communication and cooperation with other people involved in the care of the patients. This position has direct authority to evaluate, plan, and carry through all patient therapy programs once ordered by a physician. The incumbent may determine and provide needed adaptive equipment for patients, may determine patient scheduling; and may set priorities for use of time within professional guidelines and requirements of department policies. Approval from the manager or supervisor is needed for changes in department policies and procedures, hospital provided travel and continuing education programs, purchasing supplies and equipment, changes in work schedule, changes in or development of new therapeutic programs, and activities interfacing with other departments. Considerable change is occurring in the rehabilitation areas; documentation methods are changing, new therapeutic programs are being developed and implemented, and long-standing programs are being improved and expanded. To keep abreast of these changes, the therapist needs to actively pursue a planned program of profession growth through professional reading and seminars. When using assistants, the therapist is responsible for the initial patient evaluation, establishment of goals and a treatment program, discharge evaluations, and a minimum of weekly discussions with that assistant concerning the patient. Revisions of a treatment program or goals must be jointly established.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree or post graduate degree and completion of an American Occupational
Therapy Association accredited occupational therapy program.
Experience: None required: Applicants with experience in the acute care setting and physical disabilities experience, specialty certification or experience in one or more specialty areas may be given preference.
License(s)/Certification(s):
1. Current Nevada state occupational therapist registered licensure required.
2. Current BLS certification is required within 30 days of hire date.
