Job Description
Director of Intensive Care Unit/Respiratory Therapy opportunity, 40 hrs/wk. Primary duties are leadership and the direct operational management of a 14-bed ICU and the Respiratory Therapy Dept. The successful candidate will have critical care experience and open heart training with 2-5 years of management experience. This individual is accountable for facilitating excellence in patient care delivery, providing operating efficiencies, and ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory agency policies and practice.
This role is an essential leadership position requiring the management of patient flow, and the efficient use of human and fiscal resources. She/he collaborates with a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Assistant Director of Respiratory Therapy, as well as Intensivists, a Clinical Pharmacist, surgeons and medical staff, and other support personnel to ensure excellent patient care is provided.
The Director, in collaboration with the unit shared governance council, participates in unit-based Quality Improvement activities, coordinates staff development opportunities, and promotes an environment that maintains high professional standards of clinical care and conduct.
Current RN license required, BSN required. MSN and certification preferred.
Provides an environment for effective patient-focused nursing care
Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals and support personnel to determine and evaluate the delivery of care; address and solve individual/unit care issues.
Promotes an environment that is sensitive to the culturally diverse needs of patients and employees
Interviews, hires and evaluates staff in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Specialist
Supports staffing patterns and required personnel complements to meet the needs of the patient population
Promotes professional development of staff through the Clinical Ladder program
Delegates responsibility and authority to appropriate staff
Completes bi-weekly payroll
Manages personnel in the accomplishment of designated goals and the provision of nursing care and services.
Works collaboratively with unit based Clinical Nurse Specialist to ensure adequate and competent staffing.
Ensures departmental compliance with hospital and regulatory agency requirements.
Monitors and adheres to annual hospital operating budget.
Implements cost-effective strategies in staffing and supply management decisions.
Assists staff in providing patient care and services as needed.

Description of the Ideal Candidate Required Job Qualifications include:
Current licensure as an RN
Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
Critical care and open heart nursing experience.
Previous experience (2-5 yrs) in leadership/management
